The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics leads a monthly campaign to shine a light on nutrition professionals and promote evidenced-based health and wellness recommendations. With an abundance of information available to consumers, making healthy food choices can seem overwhelming. This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month® focuses on simple and sustainable ways to create healthy habits, “bite by bite”.
Meet Our Team of Nutrition Professionals
Here at Weld County WIC we have 4 full-time Registered Dietitian Nutritionists on staff, including our program director. Our services are available M-F and we provide individualized nutrition counseling to our clients. To become an RDN, the minimum requirements are:
- A Bachelors degree in nutrition, dietetics, public health or a related field
- A supervised internship accumulating ~1200 practice hours in various settings
- Passing a national examination and maintaining continuing education
*By 2024, a Masters degree will be required before sitting for the registration exam
Our clinic also has 11 amazing WIC educators who are specifically trained to certify participants on the program and provide evidenced-base nutrition recommendations to our unique population. Our team all has specialized training in maternal/childhood nutrition and breastfeeding education.
We are excited to be promoting the key messages of this years’ National Nutrition Month® on a regular basis. At each WIC appointment we get the opportunity to help our participants set realistic goals that can improve health outcomes and lead to lasting lifestyle change.
